The Prancing Pony: Tolkien Mailing List
This site has quietly hosted one of the oldest e-mail based discussion groups dedicated to Tolkien's works since this site first went on-line close to ten years ago. In fact, the list was even older, since we took over management of the group from another party who had maintained it for years before.
The Net being what it is though, the group became clogged with old and outdated e-mail address, as well as long absent members.
Not being one to just let things lay about disused, I've decided to give the list a fresh start, a new name, and a new host.
A fresh start, because everything needs a really good 'spring cleaning' every now and then. Get's new and old blood on the move.
Quite naturally, we felt "The Prancing Pony" would be a good name for the list. It evokes the Inn in Bree where those journeying in that area of Middle-earth could come together and share tales of their adventures with fellow travelers.
We picked Google's 'Groups' service due to it's easy of use and the unobtrusive nature of the advertising that allows this service to exist.
So, if you enjoy a simpler and more intimate method of discussing and deliberating all things Middle-earth, then just visit the group's page and join. It's FREE, it's educational, and it's a great way to learn more about Tolkien's works and those who so enthusiastically enjoy them.
